Medical Interventions- Dr. Edward Jenner
During the 18th centry there was a huge occurance of small pox around the united states. 45 million people were victims of small pox. Dr. Edward Jenner noticed that the only people that were not getting this disease were cow maids, and that they had already contracted the disease cow pox. So he did a little research and some tests. He thought that the puss from a sore of the disease cow pox could possibly kill off the small pox resulting in curing the disease. So to test this theory, he injected a small healthy boy with the puss of the cow pox. He noticed that the boy had a small fever but somewhat recovered. After that he had taken the small pox virus and had injected it into the bloodstream of the boy. A few days later the boy appeared to be normal. This was a breakthrough in the medical community. This was when the term "vaccination" was created.

Medical Interventions- Cochlear Implant Debate
Over the past couple of weeks we have been doing a segment on hearing and how it can be lost. We have been assigned new partners as usual and have began to look at some of the hearing problems in the world as well as tools to help determine the problem. A tuning fork is a very important tool to have in an experiment determining if the person has trouble hearing or not. After that, we tested our own hearing and how well we heard. The next week we started researching about a cochlear implant, which is a device in which a person who cannot hear, can hear again. We were assigned to debate about it, being for or against, then having a debate in the classroom about some of the facts. I was against. We seemed to be very strong on our topic, but so was the other team. Overall it was fun, and I can't wait to see what we are doing next week.

Antibiotics- Medical Interventions
Okay so pretty much what we have been doing this chapter is studing a bunch of different bacteria and how antibiotics help control and destroy the bacteria. One of our assignments was to take a series of colored chips and roll a dice to see how much it took as a game for the antibiotic to kill off the bacteria. Then we each had a different bacteria we had to study and then give a 5 minute speach about, determining how this bacteria was contracted, how it was spread, and if this bacteria was curable or not. Ours luckily was, but a specific type could not be treated and became antibiotic resistant. Overall this was a very interesting chapter and would be great to continue learning about.

I Hate Public Speaking- Speech

When I stand up and look at the podium, and see all those people in front of me, about to listen to a speech I have prepaired for days before the presentation itself, I have a hard time speaking. Yes, many of us have this, butterflies in the stomach, shaky knees, sweat dripping from our foreheads, but it is just one of those mountains we will have to climb. I watched this video about people not liking to speak in public, and I can totally relate to it. I think the message they are trying to get across is that I am not alone and that we are not alone when we are afraid to stand up and talk about something we know and love. It tells exactly what I feel when I get up on that podium. Its like a stage fright, but with the possibility you are by yourself and not with 30 other kids at a christmas program and you mess up. I think it is just basically saying that we need to just chill out and really public speaking is not as bad as people think it can be. Yes it is very nerve-racking, but once you have made your speech, you feel like your on top of the world.

Over The First Few Weeks - Medical Intervention
When we first started school all we pretty much did was talk about some of the things we would be doing over the school year. We started talking about the Smith family and all their deathly ill/ sick problems. We also started talking about medical interventions that have so much changed the way we live now. It is so amazing to realize that some of the littlest things have made the biggest of differences. After that we started doing dilutions and calculating how sick people in the Smith family really are. Then we started doing all these blogs on some of the differences between antibodies and antigens. Overall, so far, its been a pretty cool year, and I am looking so forward to the future of Medical Intervention

Medical Intervention- Menignitis
Menignitis is the disease we had diagnosed Sue Smith with. This disease is a very painful and slow disease. It is mainly located in the cranial cavity inside the brain, all the way through the vertebrea, down into the nervous system. Basically this disease eats away all of these important body organs. Some of the long term effects of this disease are memory loss, headaches, clumsiness, siezers, speech problems, and loss of sight. A lot of the treatments include antibiotics, because most people are sick for around 3 days, then all better in about 2 weeks. But for some of the more serious patients, oxygen therapy is required, with blood levels constantly being checked for any rise or decrease in normal pressure. Menignitis comes from the word meninges, which are membranes that cover the brain. The word "itis" means that that area is inflamed. So this in fact makes the word "Menignitis". If I were to react to this prediciment, I would first let the campus know what was going around. After that I would advise antibiotics and shots as soon as possible for any of the people who might think they have the Menignitis virus. Once that is done I would order them to stay in doors and to drink lots of fluids, because that is known to prevent anymore swelling.
Medical Intervention- Antibodies Vs. Antigens
Antibodies are used to help fight off infections and viruses. These cells are part of the immune system. Antibodies work against cells called Antigens which are different types of infectious bacteria and pathogens. They fight off infection by aggulation, precipitation, and neutrilization. B lymphocytes are made in bone marrow to give antibodies there ability to fight off infections.

Best Truck Ever!!!

This is my "baby" as some people would say. It is part of my life because unlike some girls who love the little sports cars and fast machines, I love trucks. I have always loved trucks and well grew up working in them. My dad taught me a lot about how they work and how to tell if somethings wrong. Yes, there like cars but in my opinion they are something more. This one in particular is a 2003 Toyota Tundra. This is one similar to mine. It represents who I am because im not a girly girl, but I am a tomboy as some would say.
My Puppy

This picture tells a story of some people would call "girls best friend". I have one of these puppies named Spazz. Yes I know a wierd name, but he had his name for a reason and that being he always ran around when he was fat and chubby the first couple weeks we got him. He always slid around our kitchen floors and his bangs were too long so he rand into things, but he always knows when I am sad or depressed. He has always been there on my lap to make sure I was okay. Hes a very loyal dog and everytime I see him I just smile. Hes a frisky little spitfire, but I would not trade him for any other dog.
Music is Art

This is probably one of my most loved items I have ever recieved from a loved one. It describes who I am and what I specifically like to do. I have been able to play by ear all of my life. When I say play by ear, I mean I do not read notes, I listen to music and then it just comes to me. I have no idea how it works, but it is a very beautiful thing that I am so very blessed to have. I have played a lot of instruments before including piano, drums, trumpet, trombone, and guitar, and I would say that the guitar rocks.

Soccer

ubyssey.ca/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/wpid-So
This is a great sport including different drills and positions. Some of the drills are very intense, but rather fun, instaid of boring. Some of the positions include sweeper, midfield, defence, and goalie. These positions I have played over a course of 12 years. All of the positions I have played, I have never been able to enjoy goalie as much as any. It is a contact position where you need to use your body to defend and block balls from going into the goal. This is important to me because I have played this position longer then any other. Most people have different hobbies, but this is my hobby. I am not the only goalie, but with the others who are, they are great companions.
